Edmonton-based Aurora Hydrogen has received $3 million in funding from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and an additional $1 million from the NGIF Accelerator to advance its low-cost, low-carbon hydrogen technology. The funding will help scale the company’s hydrogen production and prepare it for commercialization.
The $3 million from NRCan’s Energy Innovation Program will support Aurora’s methane pyrolysis technology, which converts methane into hydrogen and solid carbon without emissions or water use. This advancement aims to accelerate Canada’s transition to a low-carbon economy and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
“We’re honored to have been selected for this funding, which will allow us to provide the market with the lowest-cost clean hydrogen,” said Andrew Gillis, CEO of Aurora Hydrogen.
Aurora also secured nearly $1 million through the NGIF Accelerator Global Cleantech Challenge and an additional $150,000 from its Industry Grants program. These funds will help Aurora advance its technology and mitigate environmental impacts from natural gas use.
“Aurora Hydrogen is leading the way in green technology innovation in Edmonton,” said Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment. “Together, we are moving toward a net-zero future.”
