TIMEZYX has won the top prize in the 2024 New Ventures BC Competition, presented by Innovate BC.
In addition to taking home the $110,000 Innovate BC First Place Prize, the Vancouver startup earns the distinction as the province’s top startup.
Founded by Kamyab Zandi and Adele Khavari, TIMEZYX is a cleantech startup providing real-time digital twin technology to help cities and infrastructure adapt to extreme climate events.
TIMEZYX provides a “living” structural simulation through a digital twin, continuously updated with real-world data to represent buildings and infrastructure. Their technology helps insurers assess insurability conditions for extreme events like floods and earthquakes, while enabling infrastructure owners to reduce the risk of structural failure.
“We are thrilled and honoured to receive the top prize in this year’s New Ventures BC Competition. This achievement validates our commitment to transforming how cities and infrastructure adapt to extreme climate events. We appreciate the recognition and support, which will allow us to enhance our digital twin solution and deliver impactful cleantech solutions,” shared Zandi after the win.
In addition to the top three awards, five additional startups were recognized for their achievements across a range of categories including Vancouver’s VulcanX, a cleantech startup producing hydrogen and solid carbon from natural gas with minimal emissions.
VulcanX won the $10,000 Innovate BC Sustainability Prize.
Originating from MéridaLabs at the University of British Columbia, VulcanX has developed novel systems that enhance production efficiency while keeping costs low.
Unlike traditional methods, VulcanX’s proprietary approach process generates high-quality carbon without significant pollution—and at less expense. It’s a cleaner and more cost-effective solution, according to the company.
VulcanX was one of two Canadian startups included this year in The Rice Alliance Clean Energy Accelerator, which helps seed-stage startups from around the world develop clean energy solutions, achieve technical and commercial milestones, establish market adoption, and expand reach.
The Alumni Impact Award went to MineSense Technologies, a pioneer in digital mining solutions that has been collecting awards since inception, including the Deloitte Fast 50 and a recent inclusion in the Global Cleantech 100.
