Toronto-based Baseload Power has secured $9.445 million from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to significantly expand its AURA EV Charging network, adding 126 new fast EV chargers across Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia.
This funding agreement, announced today in Toronto, aims to boost Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, supporting the nation’s shift towards greener transportation.
The $9.445 million in funding, provided under NRCan’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP), will increase Baseload’s fast-charging network to over 200 stations nationwide by the end of 2025. The ZEVIP initiative aligns with Canada’s net-zero emissions target for 2050 by encouraging accessible EV charging solutions for Canadian drivers.
“With this contribution from the Government of Canada, we are making essential investments in EV charging infrastructure to support the country’s planned EV supply chain growth and to accelerate EV adoption nationwide,” said Jonathan Sandler, President of Baseload.
“The electrification of transportation represents a transformative shift, and Canada has a unique opportunity to lead this movement, foster job creation and economic growth, and contribute to a healthier planet that ensures a sustainable legacy for future generations.”
Julie Dabrusin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and MP for Toronto–Danforth, emphasized the government’s commitment to accessible EV charging infrastructure. “To support Canadians choosing EVs, the Government of Canada is helping companies like Baseload Power build reliable and available charging options where we live, work, travel, and play,” she stated.
Baseload’s AURA EV Charging stations, located at retail, residential, workplace, and commercial sites, offer multi-speed charging services designed to be convenient and reliable for Canadians. With plans to extend its charging infrastructure even further, Baseload is helping pave the way for Canada’s growing e-mobility future.
