Foresight Canada and global automotive giant Magna International have launched the Magna International Facility Emissions Challenge, an initiative aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from manufacturing facilities without compromising efficiency or production quality.
The challenge, part of Foresight’s Innovation Challenge program, seeks innovative solutions such as energy recovery systems, alternative fuels, efficient ventilation designs, and heat pumps. Heavy industry, including auto manufacturing, accounts for roughly 12% of Canada’s total emissions, making it a prime sector for decarbonization efforts.
Foresight’s Innovation Challenge program connects industries with practical, de-risked cleantech solutions to address real-world challenges. By facilitating the development and deployment of cutting-edge technologies, the program helps industries achieve measurable results, drive sustainable growth, and enhance overall efficiency.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Magna International on this Innovation Challenge,” said Jeanette Jackson, CEO of Foresight Canada. “This partnership represents a significant step toward transforming heavy industry—a sector full of potential for groundbreaking innovation. By enhancing operational efficiency and cutting GHG emissions, we lower costs for manufacturers, reduce environmental impact, drive economic growth, and solidify Canada’s position as a leader in sustainable manufacturing.”
Finalists will have the opportunity to pitch their solutions directly to Magna’s team, with the winner piloting their technology at a Magna facility. A successful implementation could lead to wider adoption across the company’s global operations.
Foresight Canada calls the challenge a catalyst for cleantech commercialization, providing innovators with industry exposure and the chance to drive meaningful emissions reductions. Applications are now open.
