Canadian innovators developing carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies can learn more about a new $3 million funding opportunity from the B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE) at an upcoming webinar on March 11, 2025, at 10:00 am PT.
The funding, offered through CICE’s newly launched Call for Carbon Dioxide Removal Innovation, aims to support early-stage CDR solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while driving economic growth and job creation. Applications are open until April 30, 2025, with priority given to B.C.-based companies.
The announcement was made at Carbon Removal Canada’s (CRC) Carbon Removal Day 2025 in Ottawa, underscoring Canada’s role in the global effort to scale CDR solutions. Eligible technologies include direct air capture and storage, mineralization, ocean alkalinity enhancement, and biomass carbon removal and storage.
“At CICE, we back bold ideas that turn the global carbon challenge into economic opportunity,” said Sarah Goodman, President & CEO of CICE. “As a nation of problem-solvers, Canada has the talent and the technology to take a leadership position in the growing global carbon removal industry.”
CICE has already invested $15 million into 18 carbon management projects valued at $78 million, and its broader portfolio includes $39 million invested in 59 projects worth over $195 million. The initiative aligns with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimates, which state that 10 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide must be removed annually by 2050.
With Canada’s abundant natural resources and strong innovation ecosystem—particularly in B.C., where cleantech, mining, and forestry industries can drive new advancements—this funding call represents another step toward a low-carbon future.
