An Ontario-born company advancing clean energy solutions has received investment from Canada.
Hybrid Power Solutions was established in Etobicoke in 2015 by chef executive officer Francois Byrne.
Byrne’s company produces portable battery systems and customized clean energy solutions for a variety of industrial sectors such as mining, construction, railway, and military.
For example, Hybrid’s “Batt Pack” is a low-maintenance, weatherproof battery engineered and built in Canada. The product targets drone fleets across military, agricultural, and other applications.
“Our custom-built Batt Packs offer tactical advantages with extended mission capability, rapid recharge, and minimal downtime,” the company’s website reads. “Whether it’s an agricultural survey or a law enforcement operation, our Batt Packs ensure your drones have the power they need to stay in the air longer, boosting operational efficiency.”
Hybrid’s battery tech is also useful in mining. Remote locations, often far from traditional power sources, still need reliable power in harsh, humid environments. Batt Packs not only withstand these tough requirements, they also eliminate air circulation demands.
“This dramatic reduction in ventilation requirements translates directly to lower operating costs and improved air quality for workers,” the company notes. The portability of the power further enhances cost savings and operational efficiency.
This month, HPS received $2 million in funding from the federal government to further power its clean energy technology.
“By investing in southern Ontario companies advancing eco-friendly products and solutions, we are unlocking new opportunities, driving robust economic growth, and building a more sustainable future,” stated Ruby Sahota, the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
Hybrid Power Solutions was a part of nine Canadian firms receiving a combined $19 million in capital as part of the nation’s commitment to net-zero targets by 2050.
“Here in Etobicoke and across Ontario, businesses transitioning to sustainable products play a vital role in driving our economy,” commented James Maloney, a Member of Parliament for Etobicoke−Lakeshore.
The federal funding is earmarked for “expanding production and embracing advanced technology,” according to a statement from the government.
“By supporting businesses helping to produce greener products, we are creating opportunities for growth in key sectors across southern Ontario while also strengthening our economy,” remarked Francesco Sorbara, a Member of Parliament for Vaughan−Woodbridge.
For Byrne, “this funding demonstrates the Government of Canada’s confidence in Hybrid Power Solutions, the Canadian manufacturing industry, and its support for Canadian entrepreneurs and investment.”
