Earlier this year, we reported on NEO Battery Materials entering into lease agreement with the City of Windsor, securing eight acres of lands near the regional airport.
Through the partnership, NEO, a low-cost silicon anode materials developer for long-lasting and rapid-charging lithium-ion batteries, is establishing Canada’s first advanced silicon anode manufacturing facility.
“We are proud to be establishing Canada’s first advanced silicon anode manufacturing facility, enabling us to address the increasing demand for high-performance and cost-effective battery technologies,” stated chief executive officer Spencer Huh in January.
NEO, known for products such as the NBMSiDE P-300, which the Canadian cleantech innovator unveiled earlier this year, this month announced a collaboration with NainTech, a manufacturer specializing in battery and fuel cell technology as well as semiconductor and display precision equipment.
The partnership between NEO and the South Korean manufacturer will see the entities co-develop sodium-ion battery technology for energy storage systems and high-performance lithium-ion batteries.
“This co-development partnership with NainTech is another major step for NEO’s evolving business model,” believes Huh. “By expanding into electrode and cell design for SIB technology, while leveraging NainTech’s nanomaterial innovation … we are advancing comprehensively for battery innovation.”
This year, NainTech incorporated Energy11, a specialized sodium-ion battery subsidiary, to accelerate the development of next-generation energy storage solutions.
A collab with NEO was the next logical step, suggests Eric Park, who serves the publicly listed NainTech as chief executive officer.
“With our expertise in precision equipment manufacturing and material innovation, NainTech and NEO will produce synergies and deliver end-to-end solutions for new, rising sectors such as AI data centres, power grid storage, and drones,” stated Park.
“With NEO’s unique capabilities in battery design and advanced anode materials that complement NainTech’s technology roadmap, we look forward to jointly serving commercial battery solutions for various downstream markets,” he said.
