Kraken Robotics Sells SeaPower Batteries to Fuel Complex Underwater Missions

January 14, 2026 by Knowlton Thomas

A subsea intelligence company based in Atlantic Canada this week celebrated a major deal to start 2026.

Kraken Robotics uses 3D imaging sensors and robot technologies to help provide critical insights into ocean safety, infrastructure, and geology for customers.

This includes battery technology that delivers high-density, pressure-tolerant systems as well as high-resolution surveys that de-risk offshore energy installations.

In a statement, the Newfoundland firm revealed that it recently sold more than $30 million worth of its SeaPower batteries.

Kraken’s flagship SeaPower batteries enable long-endurance subsea operations on unmanned underwater vehicles, allowing for deeper and more complex underwater missions for defence, commercial, and marine research applications.

“We’re pleased to see increasing momentum on our SeaPower battery sales,” remarked chief executive officer Greg Reid, “and look forward to continued strong growth with our current customers, and to integrating on several new platforms throughout 2026.”

“With manufacturing capacity coming online in North America in addition to our European operations, we are well positioned to supply power systems to the rapidly growing UUV segment, across platforms from extra-large to small,” Reid continued.

Kraken Robotics also this month announced the hiring of Terra Penrose as Chief People Officer based out of its Nova Scotia location.

“Terra brings extensive experience shaping high performing teams and scaling structure and support systems to enable people to do their best work,” said Reid. “We are very pleased to welcome Terra to Kraken and expect her to make a meaningful impact on how we work, how we lead, and how we thrive as a team.”

Penrose, who holds a Certified Professional in Human Resources designation, was previously Chief HR Officer of Stelia Aerospace North America, an aerospace and defence manufacturing subsidiary of Airbus with operations in Nova Scotia and Quebec.

Kraken’s mission of transforming subsea intelligence “is truly inspiring,” Penrose says, “and has attracted an extremely talented team with people who care deeply about what they do.”

Penrose commented that she is “excited to be joining the company at a time of real momentum and look forward to collaborating with the team to help shepherd Kraken through this period of strong growth.”
