Plastics Recycling Innovator Sustane Unveils ‘Significant Milestones’ in Nova Scotia

February 12, 2026 by Knowlton Thomas

Sustane Technologies this week announced “significant project milestones.”

Sustane’s proprietary technology transforms plastics destined for landfills or incineration into virgin-quality feedstock suitable for use in chemical production.

The Nova Scotia company revealed “continued progress toward expanded plastics recycling capacity and operational scale” through advances at its facility in Chester.

This includes the delivery of Quebec-based Pyrovac’s Pyrolysis Reactor—which forms the backbone of Sustane’s advanced plastics recycling process—to the Chester facility.

Civil and concrete works, meanwhile, support a “phased increase in on-site capacity,” including higher plastic intake, improved material handling, and safer storage, while maintaining flexibility for future expansion, according to a statement from the Atlantic Canadian innovator.

To support Sustane’s growth strategy moving forward, the company has appointed Marc Donaldson as Project Director.

The Founder of Martech Energy, Donaldson brings decades of experience delivering infrastructure projects across large-scale industrial systems.

“Marc’s experience in de-risking projects across the full lifecycle and aligning execution with strategic objectives strengthens our ability to deliver safely, predictably, and at scale,” commented Peter Vinall, chief executive officer of Sustane.

“His leadership comes at a pivotal time as we move from construction into startup,” he said.

Last year, Sustane Technologies signed a long-term offtake agreement with global chemical giant BASF to supply premium recycled plastic feedstock.

“This partnership with BASF affirms the value of our Canadian-made innovation on the global stage,” Vinall remarked at the time. “Together, we’re closing the loop on hard-to-recycle plastics and proving that circular solutions can scale and deliver real economic and environmental impact.”

Sustane’s “advanced recycling technology enables us to integrate high-quality, circular feedstock into our value chains and reduce reliance on fossil inputs while supporting our customers’ green transformation goals,” stated Paul Houston, Manager of Business Development Americas at BASF, in June.
