Calgary-based E3 Lithium is joining forces with Pure Lithium, a Boston-based company known for its innovative lithium metal battery technology, to develop a pilot plant for lithium metal anode and battery production in Alberta.
Pure Lithium, which operates on a vertically integrated model, has developed a groundbreaking Brine to Battery technology. This joint effort will focus on creating a preliminary economic assessment for a commercial lithium metal battery facility. The facility will combine Pure Lithium’s patented technology with E3’s extensive lithium brine resources and concentrate production.
The partnership aims to streamline the battery production process by eliminating the need for a lithium salt intermediary, potentially simplifying the overall workflow.
Earlier this summer, E3 announced that Pure Lithium had successfully produced a lithium metal battery using E3’s lithium concentrate. Following this, the companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding to carry out further testing and validation.
Over the past two years, E3 and Pure Lithium have been working together, with Pure Lithium using E3’s lithium concentrate to create lithium metal cells. These cells offer higher energy density than current lithium-ion batteries and do not rely on nickel, cobalt, or graphite.
