The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) and Vancouver-based Elemental Energy have finalized a $118 million loan for the Higgins Mountain Wind Project, located in Colchester and Cumberland, Nova Scotia. The wind farm will feature 17 turbines capable of generating up to 100 megawatts of electricity, enough to power over 40,000 homes.
The site’s strong wind capacity and proximity to transmission infrastructure make it ideal for clean energy production. The project will replace coal-based energy, reducing carbon emissions by over 200,000 tonnes annually, supporting a more sustainable grid.
Elemental Energy, along with Stevens Wind and Sipekne’katik First Nation (SFN), will design, build, and operate the facility, with training opportunities for SFN and local contractors. The construction phase is expected to create up to 100 jobs, with further full-time positions available for ongoing operations.
Construction has begun, and the wind farm is set to be operational by late 2025.
