Deep Sky, a Quebec-based carbon removal project developer, has announced a $40 million USD grant commitment from Breakthrough Energy Catalyst. The funds will support the construction of Deep Sky Alpha (formerly Deep Sky Labs) and advance research and testing of direct air capture (DAC) technologies. This milestone marks Catalyst’s first-ever investment in a Canadian project and its inaugural support for DAC technology.
Deep Sky Alpha, scheduled to become operational by Spring 2025, will test multiple DAC technologies to identify scalable solutions for cost-effective carbon removal. The facility’s efforts aim to accelerate the deployment of large-scale commercial carbon removal and deliver high-quality carbon removal credits to the market.
