Svante and Tenaska Partner to Boost Industrial Carbon Capture Efforts

January 16, 2025 by Robert Lewis

Burnaby’s Svante Technologies, a leader in carbon capture technology, has announced a new partnership with Tenaska, a major provider of CO2 transportation and storage services. The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deliver affordable and integrated solutions for industrial carbon capture and storage (CCS).

This partnership aims to tackle global industrial emissions and help decarbonize sectors like pulp and paper, cement, steel, and oil and gas. By combining their expertise, Svante and Tenaska will offer complete CCS solutions to select customers.

Svante will contribute its advanced solid sorbent-based carbon capture technology, which efficiently traps carbon dioxide emissions from industrial facilities. Tenaska will handle the safe and permanent transportation and underground storage of the captured CO2. Tenaska is already developing several projects across the United States and has applied for nearly 20 permits for CO2 injection wells in various states.

The collaboration has three main goals:

Integrated Carbon Management: Svante will focus on capturing CO2 and managing processes like compression and liquefaction, while Tenaska will oversee transportation and storage.

North America-Wide Outreach: The partnership will promote CCS solutions to industries across North America, providing customized services to fit different needs.

Innovative Project Development: Both companies will work together to identify promising CCS projects and use their combined expertise to make them successful.

Matt Stevenson, Chief Revenue Officer at Svante, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “By combining our technology with Tenaska’s extensive experience in CO2 transportation and storage, we can offer end-to-end solutions that accelerate the transition to a net-zero future.”

Bret Estep, Vice President of Tenaska Development, added, “Together, we aim to provide industrial customers with the tools and confidence to achieve their decarbonization goals.”

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to helping industries cut carbon emissions through efficient and scalable carbon capture solutions. Svante and Tenaska hope their collaboration will make it easier for industries to meet sustainability targets while maintaining strong business operations.
