7Gen Accelerates Clean-Tech Transition for IKEA and Others with Integrated Electric Vehicle Solutions

September 25, 2024 by Knowlton Thomas

7Gen simplifies the deployment of electric medium and heavy-duty trucks, buses, and vans with a solution that integrates everything needed for the transition to clean-tech.

Given the wide array of organizations entering this transition, 7Gen’s clients span a broad spectrum. The list includes IKEA, that iconic brand established in Älmhult, Småland in July of 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad, who began his business by fulfilling mail-orders via bicycle.

IKEA has long been steadfast in optimizing operations and maintaining consistent growth while also enhancing the sustainability of the business.

For example, the company attracts roughly one billion customers per year, including 700 million to its stores. Emissions from vehicles going to and from these stores account for around 15% of IKEA’s total “climate footprint.”

As the firm ramps up e-commerce operations to shave those figures, IKEA hopes all customer deliveries and services in Canada will use electric vehicles or other zero-emission solutions by the end of 2025. And 7Gen is helping power that transition.

The B.C. firm offers a “robust selection” of vehicle options, from Class 2 through 8, promising to “get the vehicles you need for your fleet, whether food deliveries, e-commerce fulfillment, trades and services, school buses, or more.”

7Gen claims to provide tailored end-to-end service while still offering data and control for the user.

“From comprehensive fleet assessments to design, installation, and ongoing support, our EV expertise ensures a smooth transition to electric vehicles,” a statement from the website reads. “Get access to real-time … vehicle, charger, and utility data on one dashboard, allowing you to select, deploy, and optimize your new vehicles and chargers.”

This year, 7Gen is a finalist for BC’s Technology Impact Awards.

Powered by the BC Tech Association, the annual affair is now in its fourth decade.

This year’s TIA categories include “Excellence in Industry Innovation,” Excellence in Company Culture,”  and “Gamechager: Climate Leadership”—which is the award 7Gen is up for.

7Gen was founded in Vancouver in 2020.
