NorthX Climate Tech (NorthX) has invested $1.6 million in three Canadian innovators developing energy storage solutions, underscoring the sector’s role in the clean energy transition.
The Vancouver-based innovation catalyst announced funding for Aqua-Cell Energy of Edmonton, along with Vancouver companies FUTURi Power and Foreseeson Technology. All three are pursuing scalable ways to deliver reliable, low-cost storage at a time when demand for electricity is rising and grids are being reshaped by renewables.
“This is the future, and with support from NorthX and BC Hydro, these innovative companies are showing us that the future is now in British Columbia,” said Adrian Dix, B.C.’s Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions.
Aqua-Cell Energy is piloting its saltwater-based long-duration battery in Victoria. FUTURi Power is transforming EVs and stationary batteries into smart, grid-supporting assets, while Foreseeson Technology is integrating responsive storage with fast DC charging to make electric vehicle refueling as fast as filling a gas tank.
NorthX launched its Call for Energy Storage Innovation in partnership with BC Hydro to accelerate commercialization of Canadian technologies that balance supply and demand, integrate renewables, and ease pressure on the grid.
With these latest investments, NorthX has committed $41.2 million across 68 projects, projecting to create 850 jobs and catalyze more than $425 million in follow-on capital.
