With Boost of Capital, Alberta Startup Aims to Innovate Grid Reliability in Canada

April 7, 2026 by Knowlton Thomas

A Canadian clean energy startup this week confirmed the final close of a pre-seed funding round.

Calgary-based Splice N Connect secured $1.75M from Avatar Leadership Fund, Phoenix Fire: Archangel Network of Funds, Valhalla Private Capital, Startup TNT, and a group of family offices and angel investors.

This marks the completion of previously announced financing.

“We are proud to have successfully closed this round and to deepen our partnership with Avatar,” stated Taban Sabih, chief executive officer of Splice N Connect.

The Alberta innovator emerged from Avatar Studio in 2023, when the founders developed a proprietary sensing device and software platform that directly monitors cable connections in real time.

“Having built Splice N Connect within Avatar’s Studio, we’ve benefited from their hands-on approach and deep industry expertise,” the Canadian entrepreneur said.

Splice’s system is designed to provide continuous insight into grid conditions, predict failures before they occur, and reduce maintenance costs.

Beyond traditional utilities, the startup sees demand from renewable energy operators, downhole mining operations, and large industrial power users.

Proceeds from the financing will be used to complete product development, advance field testing and pilot deployments, and accelerate commercialization across key customer segments, according a statement from the startup.

“This milestone allows us to accelerate our path to market at a time when grid reliability has never been more critical,” Sabih commented.

An alumni of the 2025 Creative Destruction Lab Rockies program, Splice N Connect “is tackling a foundational challenge in energy infrastructure with a highly differentiated and scalable solution,” believes Bryan Trudel, Partner of Avatar Leadership Fund.

Anchored by investment from Cenovus Energy and supported by family offices and investors, the $2.5 million Avatar Leadership Fund provides early-stage risk capital to high-potential companies emerging from Avatar Studio, bridging the funding gap for early-stage energy transition technologies and accelerate industrial decarbonization in Canada.

“We are excited to support the team as they move from development to deployment and begin delivering measurable impact across the grid ecosystem,” Trudel said.
