Five Canadian companies cracked the 2026 list of the world’s top green technology innovators.
TIME partnered with data firm Statista on the second annual ranking of the World’s Top GreenTech Companies, naming 250 top performing companies operating within the green technologies wheelhouse.
While only five Canadian companies made the list, representing just 2% of the total, it’s worth noting that statistic includes the top two companies ranked: Vancouver-based nuclear energy startup General Fusion and Calgary-based Eavor, which is developing a geothermal energy system that keeps fluids contained by sending water into deep underground wells to heat then drawing it up through a separate well.
General Fusion, which plans to go public on the U.S. stock exchange through a $1B SPAC deal this year, has accrued a portfolio of 200 issued and pending patents since its founding in 2002, and continues its legacy of clean energy innovation via the company’s proprietary Magnetized Target Fusion technology.
Eavor, meanwhile, is the only Canadian company to make TIME’s list both years.
“We’re proud to be recognized by TIME as one of the top five GreenTech companies globally,” stated Eavor CEO Mark Fitzgerald. “This recognition reflects the progress we’re making as we advance our closed-loop geothermal system, build strong partnerships, and expand into new markets.”
Other recent accolades for the Alberta firm include being named “Overall CleanTech Innovation of the Year.”
Within the top 100, Brookfield Renewable Partners and Toronto’s Hydrostor are present. Outside the top 100, Calgary’s Carbon Upcycling also made TIME’s list.
The other Canadian companies highlighted by TIME’s inaugural list last year were Waabi, Svante, Li-Cycle, and eLeapPower.
