Sherbrooke’s Calogy Solutions to Power Air-Cooling Tech for Drones in Harsh Conditions

August 5, 2026 by Knowlton Thomas

AIRO Group Holdings has tapped a Canadian company to help a subsidiary advance high-perfomance drone operations.

AIRO’s Jaunt Air Mobility announced this month that it has selected Université de Sherbrooke spinoff Calogy Solutions to design the battery system for its recently unveiled next-generation hybrid-electric drone variants, the JC-250 and the JX-250.

“We are pleased to partner with Calogy Solutions as we advance the development of our next-generation hybrid-electric VTOL platform,” stated Eric Côté, President of Jaunt Air Mobility Canada.

Calogy will develop the battery system using its proprietary Uni.T passive air-cooling technology, which delivers liquid-cooling performance without the weight and complexity of traditional liquid systems.

Taking the form of a metallic plate, Uni.T leverages the thermal performance of a liquid-vapour phase change cycle to transfer heat from a source to a dissipation site and can be customized to fit specialized without compromising performance.

The lightweight architecture is designed to support operation across a range of environmental conditions while mitigating thermal runaway propagation to enhance safety.

“Their expertise in battery engineering and their innovative thermal management technology align well with our focus on building a safe, reliable, and high-performance aircraft capable of operating in demanding environments,” Côté continued. “We look forward to working together as we move the program toward flight testing and commercialization.”

For cofounder Mahmood Shirazy, “This partnership validates years of innovation at Calogy.”

“With Uni.T and battery engineering designed for the harshest conditions, we are proving that high-performance, safe, and lightweight energy systems can power the future of advanced air mobility,” the entrepreneur remarked.

Beyond cooling technology, Calogy Solutions also offers the “L.Pack,” which is a modular battery platform with Uni.T directly integrated.

The L.Pack delivers fast charging in cold weather, rendering applications across off-highway equipment, ATVs/UTVs, work trucks, cargo bikes, marine, and industrial vehicles.
