Canadian Solar Enters 2026 with Momentum as Kitchener Cleantech Shuffles Board, C-Suite

January 6, 2026 by Knowlton Thomas

Last year, Canadian Solar opened a new global headquarters in Kitchener.

Founded in 2001 by Dr. Shawn Qu in Guelph, Canadian Solar—a provider of solar photovoltaic modules and battery energy storage solutions—has grown into a global powerhouse with more than 15,000 employees across 20 countries.

“This is a pivotal moment for Canadian Solar,” Qu stated at the time. “This new headquarters is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and innovation, as we continue to provide clean energy solutions to customers worldwide from right here in Ontario.”

This year, Canadian Solar celebrates its 25th anniversary.

“As we approach our 25th anniversary in 2026, Canadian Solar enters a pivotal period in its evolution,” commented Qu recently.

Last month, the firm appointed Colin Parkin, former head of Canadian Solar’s e-STORAGE division, as President.

Parkin assumes the role from Qu himself, who will continue to serve as Canadian Solar’s chairman and chief executive officer.

“Colin has played a critical role in building e-STORAGE into a global energy storage leader,” noted Qu in December.

In conjunction with Parkin’s appointment, the Board also appointed Dylan Marx as Chief Operating Officer.

“Together, with their deep institutional knowledge and leadership, Colin and Dylan will help chart and execute Canadian Solar’s next phase of growth and drive long-term value,” Qu stated.

Parkin and Marx both hail from backgrounds at Recurrent Energy, a Canadian Solar subsidiary.

The strategic promotions enable Qu to focus on long-term strategy and technology innovation, according to an official statement, amid an expansion phase in North America.

“We are extremely proud of the Company’s accomplishments and remain deeply committed to our more than 15,000 employees worldwide,” said Qu.

Canadian Solar trades publicly as CSIQ since 2006, with shares in the company having doubled over the past year.
