The Global Energy Show Canada 2025, held in Calgary from June 10 to 12, spotlighted several clean energy and cleantech companies from across Canada. The awards program, which honoured leadership and sustainability in the energy sector, celebrated those who are driving the future of clean energy technology.
Here’s a look at Canadian companies that earned recognition this year:
Disruptive Digital Innovator – RevSolz
Marc Mukhtarli, CEO and Co-Founder of Calgary’s RevSolz, accepted this hotly contested award for their FracSol platform, a game-changing digital oil field solution. FracSol optimizes hydraulic fracturing operations by combining real-time monitoring, intelligent analytics, and automation. The platform enhances efficiency, reduces costs, and empowers operators to make smarter, safer, and more sustainable decisions in their operations.
Emerging Clean Technologies – Carbonova
Dr. Mina Zarabian, CEO and Co-Founder of Calgary’s Carbonova, accepted the award for their innovative carbon nanofiber technology. Carbonova’s scalable, eco-friendly solution uses captured CO2 and methane to produce carbon nanofibers, which have applications in industries such as plastics, composites, and construction. Dr. Zarabian’s leadership has been instrumental in taking Carbonova from pilot production to its first commercial demonstration unit.
Excellence in Energy Research – University of Calgary
Dr. Milana Trifkovic, a Professor at the University of Calgary, was awarded for her team’s pioneering research in nanomaterials, specifically her work with AsphaDots – carbon dots derived from oil sands asphaltenes. Their breakthrough allows for low-temperature synthesis, transforming a petroleum byproduct into a valuable resource for industries such as electronics and energy storage.
Innovation in Technologies: Equipment or Process Controls – Scovan
Jane Cavanagh, VP of Projects and Operations at Calgary’s Scovan, accepted the award for their impressive HipVap technology. HipVap revolutionizes steam generation in SAGD by eliminating the need for traditional water treatment, reducing both capital and operating costs. The technology opens new economic opportunities for oil producers and reduces emissions in the process.
Methane Impact Innovation – GHGSat
Ryan Mattson, VP of Oil and Gas for Montreal’s GHGSat, accepted the highly anticipated new award focused on reducing methane emissions. GHGSat operates the world’s largest fleet of satellites dedicated to methane monitoring. Their high-resolution satellites deliver unmatched data speed and accuracy, allowing decision-makers to quickly address methane emissions at their source. GHGSat’s innovative technology is a key tool in the global effort to decarbonize the energy sector.
Powering the Future – Remote Power
Alex McEwen, COO and Co-Owner of Calgary’s Remote Power, accepted the award for their distributed energy solutions that provide low-emission, cost-effective alternatives to diesel generators. Operating on natural gas, biogas, and blended hydrogen, Remote Power’s modular, scalable power systems are helping oil and gas sites, mining operations, and construction projects reduce emissions while maintaining operational efficiency.
Suzanne West Environmental Excellence – Petroleum Technology Research Centre
Ranjith (Ran) Narayanasamy, CEO and President of Petroleum Technology Research Centre located in Regina, accepted the award honouring the late sustainability pioneer. PTRC’s Aquistore project, a world-first industrial-scale CO2 injection and monitoring project, has injected approximately 600Kt of CO2 into deep geological formations since 2015. Aquistore’s success in large-scale CO2 storage is a crucial step in addressing climate change through carbon capture and storage (CCS).
For the winners this year, the recognition provides a credibility boost as well as opening doors to new business opportunities, greater visibility, and increased funding. The Global Energy Show Canada Awards continue to be an important platform for Canadian companies to showcase their disruptive technologies in the clean energy and cleantech sectors.
